Ents, the shepherds of trees, are perhaps the creatures within the universe of Tolkien that more powerfully attracted my attention. They were conceived by the valier Yavanna Kementari, during the song in that created the world, like guardians of all the creatures who grow with their roots on the Earth. When the children of Erú wake up on the Earth, ents woke up in the forests and were the elves that taught them to speak.

At the outset they lived in several Middle Earth forests, but soon they concentrated themselves in Fangorn, name also of the oldest of the ents. Treebeard or Fangorn is the master of the ents who even survives in Middle Earth when the One Ring appears again and it was transported by the carrier to be destroyed in Mount of Doom. Merry and Pippin, hobbits friens of Frodo, meet accidentally with Treebeard and they inform to him into the danger in which the forest and all inhabitants are.

A tree man is a wonderful thing to imagine. Although Tolkien describes ents more similarities to human, being the human figure something that we know as a daily reference, perhaps too much or, the idea to humanize a tree or to become more a tree to a human is much more attractive, is why my first interpretation of Treebeard looks to show a balance between the human and the tree, through the hint of extremities and hands, but perhaps detailing the face much more.

Even so, it has details that does us to notice that not tree deals with absolutely common, because what is the crest of the head has certain symmetrical aspect that it is not so natural in the trees, with that "crown" or "horns" that its head ends, even so I have tried to portray the different volumes in the trunk and the branches, adding the detail of few mushrooms growing in one of its flanks.

A detail that perhaps makes lack are the leaves, perhaps because although with life, it may looks like a dry tree, although we could think that autumn is the aspect of the ent in the heat of, although I am not safe if ents changes rather of leaves during the stations or of perennial leaves, although able to change of color.

Once I finalized Treebear, I realized of which its face was, at least for my, too friendly, and it made me think that could be also the face of Gandalf the Grey.
