Dragón de carta/ Card Dragon

Esta pieza fue solicitada por mi amigo Héctor Fuentes, quien se ha caracterizado por ser uno de mis clientes más frecuentes. Ha adquirido varias piezas, aunque en su mayoría me ha dado libertad creativa, esta es una pieza inspirada en una criatura que apareció en un famoso juego de cartas y estrategia.

Él me dió dos imágenes del mismo dragón, una que era una versión muy primigénia del mismo, cuando el juego de cartas apenas empezaba a cobrar popularidad y la otra, una versión más actual. La indicación que me diera Héctor es que prefería que trabajara sobre la primera versión, por ser un clásico, pero que utilizara la segunda imagen para de algún modo completar la idea del cuerpo del dragón, ya que en la primera versión se podía ver muy poco de él, salvo la cabeza y las garras.

Me puse a trabajar con lo que tenía, la pieza sería pequeña y sintetizada y, sin embargo, debía guardar bien las características del dragón. El cuerpo fue muy estilizado, utilizando solo formas geométricas básicas, lo mismo que la cabeza. Las alas fueron algo más complicado, pero decidí darles una postura que semejara lo que veía en la ilustración de la carta, sin preocuparme si me resultaban anatómicamente correctas.

Resolver las extremidades fue algo sencillo, así como elegir el largo de la cola (un poco exagerada) y su posición. Sería la segunda pieza que yo pintaría directamente, pues con anterioridad le tenía miedo a intervenir directamente a mi trabajo, por lo que pedía siempre la colaboración de mi buen amigo Francisco Sámano, que bajo mi dirección creaba cosas extraordinarias con su aerógrafo. Al final, el resultado es el que pueden disfrutar.

This piece was requested by my friend Héctor Fuentes, who has been characterized for being one of my most frequent clients. He has acquired several pieces, although mostly he has given me creative freedom, this  piece has been inspired by a creature that appeared in a famous card game and strategy.

He gave me two images of the same dragon, one that was a prime version of the same one, when the card game scarcely was starting receiving popularity and the other one, a more current version. The indication that Héctor was giving me is that he preferred that I worked on the first version, for being the classic one, but that I will use the second image somehow to complete the idea of the body of the dragon, since in the first version it was possible to see very little of him, except the head and the claws.

I started working with what I had, the piece would be small and synthesized and, nevertheless, he had to keep well the characteristics of the dragon. The body was much stylized, using only geometric basic forms, the same as the head. The wings were something more complicated, but I decided to give them a position that was resembling what he saw in the illustration of the card, without worrying if they were proving to me anathomycally correct.

To solve the extremities was something simple, as well as to choose the length of the tail (a little exaggerated) and his position. It would be the second piece that I would paint directly, so in advance I was afraid to intervening directly to my work, from what I was always asking the collaboration of my good friend Francisco Sámano, that down my direction was creating extraordinary things with his airbrush. In the end, the result is the one that they can enjoy.
